Each summer, BK (before kids), my husband and I would make a list of the top things we wanted to do, see or enjoy over the summer. Annual standbys included watching the Perseid Meteor Shower<\/a> from a we-don\u2019t-dare-disclose Lake Michigan<\/a> beach; a drive-in movie at the Cherrybowl Drive-In<\/a> (one of the last remaining drive-in theaters<\/a> in Michigan); and a hike along the Empire Bluffs hiking trail<\/a> within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Enter Kid 1 and Kid 2 and we\u2019ve slipped some on our summertime bucket list making \u2014 but we\u2019re back at it. This past winter we had five things on our list and managed to do all but one. Now that we\u2019re into pre-spring\/summer, it\u2019s time now to focus on our warm weather list. What is it we want to share with our boys this summer? What do I remember, fondly, doing as a kid\u2026 and now want to pass along?<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s our start at this summer\u2019s list:<\/span><\/p>\n

Our 2012 Summer Bucket List \u2013 Family version<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Hike Old Indian Trail @ Sleeping Bear Dunes (north of Frankfort, Michigan<\/a> on M-22)<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Body surfing and sand castles<\/a> at Elberta Beach (Elberta, Michigan<\/a>)<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Camp in the backyard<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Corn dogs<\/a> and Gibby\u2019s Fries at the National Cherry Festival <\/a>(Traverse City<\/a>)<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Have at least three bonfires with the neighbors<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. To be continued\u2026<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
