Traverse City, Michigan – Travel and Lodging

Traverse City Uncorked – May 1 – 31, 2018

Traverse City Uncorked
Quickly becoming a renowned wine destination, Traverse City boasts a wide range of cool-climate wines that pair perfectly with the exploding cuisine scene. The region’s two peninsulas, Leelanau and Old Mission, are both designated as American Viticultural Areas (AVA) with diverse microclimates uniquely suited for a variety of wine grapes. Throughout the month of May, enjoy lodging packages, tasting room specials, chef events, winemaker dinners, education and more. Visit Traverse City Uncorked‘s website for further information.

Fun pairing alert to try this weekend!

Psst...when in doubt, just have s'more wine ; )

—with Aurora Cellars

Aurora Cellars
Try a Fun pairing for Memorial Day Weekend! It's time for S'mores (try this delightful cookie version). Yes, you can pair them with Aurora Cellar’s Medium Sweet Riesling (2016). Our wine has beautiful stone fruit aromatics with hints of minerality from the soil where it is grown on the Leelanau Peninsula. The fruit that was harvested had a perfect balance of sugar and acid. What a perfect burst of flavor when you pair these two!

S’mores Cookies
Ingredients:
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt, coarse
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 cup dark-brown sugar
1 large egg
Ghirardelli 60% cacao dark chocolate chips
Marshmallows, halved

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a food processor, pulse oats until finely ground. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt; pulse to combine. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, scraping down side of bowl. With mixer on low, beat in flour mixture just until combined.

2. Drop dough by tablespoons, 1 inch apart, onto two baking sheets. Top each with 4 chocolate chips. Bake just until lightly golden, 11 to 13 minutes, rotating sheets halfway through. Remove sheets from oven; heat broiler. Top each cookie with a halved marshmallow. Broil until marshmallows are lightly browned, watch closely. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool. Makes 24 cookies.
