Traverse City, Michigan – Travel and Lodging

White Pine Stampede – February 3, 2018

The White Pine Stampede – the Midwest’s premier nordic event – February 3, 2018.

Established in 1977 the event has been held on the first Saturday of February every year since, with the exception of snow challenged 2012. Originally a 50 kilometer, point to point, race from Frederic to Mancelona, Michigan the race is now contested 50 kilometers or 20 kilometers from Mancelona to Shanty Creek Resorts in Bellaire. There is also a 10 kilometer timed but non competitive event available for those who wish to take a more leisurely trip.

For the past 27 years five dollars from each entry, together with other voluntary gifts, has been donated to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation. To date, more than $85,700.00 has gone to the Ophthalmology Department of the hospital.

Each entrant will receive a specially designed and dated tee shirt, when they register, as part of their entry fee.

Finishers of their chosen event will receive a medal commemorating their accomplishment as they cross the finish line.

WPS Finish

The competitors in the 50 kilometer and 20 kilometer races are divided into classifications based on the style of skiing, (classic or freestyle), gender and age. Awards will be given to the TOP THREE FINISHERS in each class.

All three events start at the Mancelona High School. Prior to the race, utilize the common area, of the school, for preparing, waxing and maybe having a pancake or two before tackling the trail. Your warm ups will be transported and made available to you at your finish. Transportation will be available to return you to your car in the school parking lot.

At the conclusion of your event, and after having located your car, feel free to join us at the Shanty Creek Summit Center for the SHORT’S BREWING POST RACE COOL DOWN. A sampling of Short’s product, together with snacks, will be available for all as they discuss the day with friends and family while viewing a slide show of the day’s events. Doors will open at 1:30 PM. The SHORTS BREWING AWARDS CEREMONY will begin promptly at 3:30 PM, in the same room. Winner or not join us for a continuation of the festivities.

We are sanctioned as a non-scored race by the United States Ski Association. We look forward to working closely with the association as we plan for the future.

We have been long affiliated with the Michigan Cup Series. It has been fun over the many decades to watch us grow together.

We look forward to seeing old friends again and making new friends. The race committee and the communities of Mancelona and Bellaire welcome you to join us on the first Saturday of February. Become a part of our tradition.

Entertainment

Drew Hale Band - Time: 3-5pm
Influenced by Texas roots and artists such as Reckless Kelly and Eric Church, the Drew Hale Band’s music pays homage to the red dirt country and southern rock scenes, as well as paints a picture of their love for the people and culture of Michigan, where the band calls home. They have shared stages and played festivals with some of Nashville’s biggest recording artists, including Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley, Trace Adkins, Toby Keith, and more. You can count on an eclectic show that delivers a dynamic combination of originals and covers that bridge the gap between country, roots rock, and blues.

The Rock Show Band - Time: 5:30-8pm
Mirroring the look and bombast of Journey in its 1980s heyday, The Rock Show Band takes fans on a sojourn through the greatest hits of the Steve Perry era. The song list timewarps to the golden days of shoulder pads and leopard prints as the band loves, touches, and squeezes out all the greatest hits. Their flashy fun performances are sure to keep you on your feet all night!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Camp & Craft Childcare - 4-8pm: $49
Let our Camp & Crafts program entertain your child while you Beer and Brat! This childcare program is open to children ages 12 and under. Camp and Crafts program includes age appropriate crafts and games. Dinner included : Hot dogs, chips and watermelon.

$5 multiple child discount. Before and after care is available. $10 per additional hour needed. Advanced reservations required. Please call the Park at Water's Edge at 888.968.7686 ext. 7000.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crystal Mountain asks that you please be responsible about your alcoholic consumption. We encourage our guests to assign a designated driver or use on-property shuttles when leaving the festival. Cars left overnight will not be ticketed or towed. Those who chose not to drink at the festival will still have to pay the same price for admission as those who are drinking. All attendees have access to a lineup of musical talent, food and beverage vendors, merchandise, festival activities and prizes. For this reason, discounted tickets are not available.
