Traverse City, Michigan – Travel and Lodging

Blackthorn – The Homestead – Music on the Mountain – June 22, 2017

Blackthorn welcomes you to the rich tapestry of Celtic music.

Traditional songs of emigration, sea shanties, lively jigs and reels, and ancient airs combine with some of Ireland’s best contemporary songs for a musical experience that captures the history and legend of Ireland and its people.

What makes a Blackthorn show unique is the variety of tunes, tempos and textures. Each member of the band plays multiple instruments, including wooden flute, accordion, tin whistle, five string banjo, cittern, bones and more. These instruments complement the lead vocal of Belfast native Richard McMullan and the band’s tight blend of four part harmony.

Blackthorn has played throughout the Great Lakes region since 1984. Based in Detroit, they can be found regularly at O’Mara’s Pub and Restaurant in Berkley. Other venues include concert halls, universities and festivals, including main stage appearances at the prestigious Michigan Irish Festival and world renowned Milwaukee Irish Fest.

The concert begins at 7pm. Transportation via chair lift or six-passenger golf cart begins at 6pm. Cash bar and snacks are available for purchase. Coolers are not permitted.
In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held in Mountain Flowers Lodge
.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

To purchase tickets, call 231.334.5100

Looks nice and I like that you opened up the beach from the pool. Hopefully the beach will be handicap accessible when the boardwalk is done? I had a problem getting on the beach yesterday...I couldn't step over all the boulders in the way and there was nothing to hang onto. Might want to clear a path. And while I am on the subject- you might want to post some signs and the menu for Cafe Manitou. I know it's there but you can't see it from the pool. Glad the cafe window is open but hope it won't just be ice cream. Can we have some salads and sandwiches for hungry swimmers?

WAY overdue....

C Don Paulsell, check it out!

Michael McDonald & Boz Scaggs – Interlochen Arts Festival – June 28, 2017

Two immediately identifiable voices combine for an evening of classic hits as five-time Grammy winner Michael McDonald teams with Boz Scaggs in a showcase of songs that span the past 40 years. Friends and touring partners for years, McDonald and Scaggs share a palpable affinity for each other as they play their hits and share stories of their songs and life on the road.

Michael McDonald
As soon as you hear his voice, you know the song and exactly who’s singing. Michael McDonald has a voice that is both distinctive and soulful, immediately recognizable and beautifully commanded. His smooth style, along with his songwriting and keyboard skills, make McDonald a musical presence that has stood the test of time for more than four decades. From Doobie Brothers’ classics like “What A Fool Believes” to solo hits like “I Keep Forgettin’,” the five-time Grammy Award winning McDonald is a smooth and consummate crowd pleaser.

“(McDonald’s) instantly identifiable, soulful vocals have made him a pop culture icon…”
— Rolling Stone

Boz Scaggs
Born in Canton, Ohio, singer-songwriter William Royce Scaggs picked up his nickname Boz while living in Texas as a child. He has worked with childhood friend Steve Miller on The Steve Miller Band’s first two albums, “Children of the Future” and “Sailor,” but shortly thereafter Boz signed a record deal as a solo artist, and his second album, “Boz Scaggs,” was released in 1969. In the 70s and 80s, his hits “It’s Over,” “Lowdown,” “What Can I Say” and “Lido Shuffle,” quickly became classics. With a voice unlike any other, Boz Scaggs is a timeless classic.
