The State Theatre – Joshua Davis – Hometown Concert – May 7, 2015

Traverse City’s own Joshua Davis has made it into the Top 6 on NBC’s Emmy Award-Winning TV show The Voice, and The State Theatre is excited to announce that Joshua will be making a very special Homecoming appearance in Traverse City next week.

Come be part of the audience for a special live concert on Thursday, May 7 at 7:30 pm, here’s how you can attend:

Come line up with Joshua’s other fans on the afternoon of the show. We will fill the theater with as many fans as possible on a first come, first served basis. Josh will arrive at the theater at 5:30 pm, and we hope you’ll be on hand to greet him with signs and cheers. Doors will open at 6:45 pm.

Because NBC will be on hand to record the homecoming, please do not wear clothing or hats with logos or artwork on them (for example, no Nike or other big brand labels). Each lucky attendee will need to sign a release in order to enter the theater, and please note that attendees under 18 will need the signature of their parent or legal guardian.

The whole country will be watching Traverse City and the State Theatre next week. Let’s have some fun and show America how much we support Joshua Davis — one of the many talented people who reside in our beautiful area.

Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula – Blossom Day – May 16, 2015

A Celebration of Blossoms, Beauty and Bounty on Old Mission Peninsula

Saturday, May 16, 2015

Bring on spring! On Old Mission Peninsula, that means new wine releases. Relish samples of WOMP’s newest vintages, as well as spring’s arrival to Old Mission Peninsula. The wineries invite you to a day of tasting their new releases while enjoying fresh, spring-inspired food pairings. Several stops will even offer a chance to chat with WOMP winemakers about the grape-to-glass winemaking process, as well as offering limited barrel and tank tastings. (Try them before they’re ready to bottle!) It’s been a cold, cold winter. Thaw out with WOMP!

There are transportation companies which you may hire separately from the event, but most guests simply drive themselves.  The entire peninsula is only 19 miles long and five miles at its widest, so all wineries are within a just a few miles of each other. Click here for a list of transport companies if you’d like to hire a shuttle tour.

Tickets are available online here for $25 per person, plus processing.

NMC Barbecue – May 17, 2015

The NMC Barbecue is one of northern Michigan’s most popular and enduring traditions. The annual event brings thousands of people to NMC’s main campus for an old-fashioned picnic and a chance to see their community college, with a grand total of 9,040 people attending the 59th annual NMC Barbecue in 2014.

The late Gerald W. Oleson and his wife Frances, founders of Oleson’s Food Stores in Traverse City, started the annual fundraiser picnic in 1956. Oleson’s Food Stores continue to donate the food, and hundreds of volunteers turn out to make the event happen.

When is the Barbecue?

The Barbecue is always on the Sunday before Memorial Day Weekend — 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. To plan ahead for future NMC Barbecues, save these dates on your calendar:

Sunday, May 17, 2015
Sunday, May 22, 2016
Sunday, May 21, 2017
