Grand Traverse Balloon Classic – June 17, 18 and 19, 2011

All balloon activities are subject to weather conditions. Preferred conditions are extremely light winds, good visibility, and dry. Times may be adjusted slightly.

More updates and information coming soon, including weather updates a few hours prior to each launch as launch sites are determined by the direction of the wind and weather conditions.

If winds are out of north (a combination of surface winds and winds aloft), we will anticipate launching at the open space, if winds are out of the south (a combination of surface winds and winds aloft), we will anticipate launching at an alternate location that will be determined at least 2 hours prior to launch

Friday 17th: Evening group fly out (a portion of the 25 balloons launching as a group will be a beautiful sight) followed by an evening balloon glow where the balloons are illuminated from the burners. The fly out will begin at approximately 7:30pm and the balloon glow will be beginning at approximately 9:30pm, lasting until about 10:30. A portion of the balloons will perform a balloon glow after sunset at the open space located in downtown Traverse City

Saturday 18th: Sunrise balloon launch beginning around 6am with a group ascension with approximately 25 balloons launching. Evening group fly out at approximately 7:30pm followed by an evening balloon glow around 9:30pm, lasting until about 10:30. A portion of the balloons will perform a balloon glow after sunset at the open space located in downtown Traverse City

Sunday 19th: Sunrise flight begins at approximately 6am.

All balloon events open to the public, free of charge.

Celebrate sunshine and spring skiing with a weekend filled with music, art, food and fun! In honor of our favorite sticky, sweet delicacy… maple syrup, Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa presents the 3rd Annual Maple Syrup Festival.

Tree tapping demonstrations, maple syrup vendors, cooking demos, chainsaw wood carving demonstration, and pancakes drenched in delicious northern Michigan maple syrup are just a few of the highlights.

The Homestead – Michigan Telemark Festival – February 26, 2011

Join other Telemark skiers for a weekend of freeheeling at the resort and in the adjoining Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. There will be clinics for all ability levels, a NASTAR race and fun!

Clinics available from 10am to 5pm. NASTAR race at 2pm

10am Discount $15 Telemark Lift Tickets that includes all-day demo from the Outfitter

11am to Noon beginner/novice clinic $25 per person

Noon to 2pm Clillin’ & Grillin’ at Mountain Flowers Lodge front patio. Hot dogs, brats, soda, water and beer will be available.

2pm to 4pm NASTAR Telemark Racing on Purple Clover, $5 for 2 or $10 for unlimited runs

The Homestead – Art from Michigan’s Wine Coast – February 4, 2011

Glen Arbor Art Association presents an exhibition of local artists from Michigan’s wine country. Sip wine and enjoy small plates of food as you browse the paintings, drawings and sculptures. The exhibit is located at Mountain Flowers Lodge at The Homestead.

Exhibition hours are 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Cost: $20 per person at the door, which includes two glasses of wine and small food plates. Additional pours are available for $4/glass or 3 glasses for $10. For each ticket sold, $5 will be donated to Glen Arbor Artists scholarship and free after-school art program for students. Call The Homestead for ticket information at 231.334.5100.
