Toast the Season - A Wine & Food Celebration with Holiday Themed Gifts
It has become a Northwest Michigan holiday tradition - the Leelanau Peninsula Vintners Association’s Toast the Season wine tour. Once again, two consecutive weekends of tasting and touring will be offered, November 7 & 8 and also on November 14 & 15. The tour is self guided and you may visit 16 of the member wineries (up to 8 per day) in any order at any time between the hours of 11am to 6pm Saturday, or noon to 5pm Sunday.
“This is a great time for families and friends to gather to celebrate the upcoming season and even get started on their holiday shopping,” says Adam Satchwell of Shady Lane Cellars. “Wines and other items from Leelanau Peninsula tasting rooms are the perfect gift for the holidays. Our wines compliment holiday meals, cocktail parties or any gathering and they make great gifts!”
The annual Toast the Season wine trail tour features a special wine pour, accompanied by holiday themed gourmet food, at each of the 17 Leelanau Peninsula member wineries. At your starting winery you will be given a commemorative glass, a unique holiday ornament and a holiday gift basket from the members of Sleeping Bear Gourmet (a group of local, fair trade and organic food producers).
“We’re excited to participate in Toast the Season. It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate the rich culinary heritage of this region and aligns perfectly with Sleeping Bear Gourmet’s commitment to a local food economy,” said Timothy Fitzgerald Young of Food For Thought. Comprised of small family owned and operated businesses, Sleeping Bear Gourmet members all share common values that represent the highest gourmet standard in each respective category as well as common commitment to sustainable business practices.
Toast the Season Food Drive
This year in conjunction with Toast the Season, LPVA will work with the Father Fred Foundation (fatherfred.org) to collect canned food. Just bring your canned food donation to any of the 17 LPVA wineries and drop it in the collection box to help families in need in the Grand Traverse region this holiday season.
Tickets
Tickets for Toast the Season are $50 per person or $75 per couple (couple ticket holders receive two glasses, pours and food at each winery, but only one gift basket and ornament).

Green Cuisine is an expression of Food For Thought’s philosophy. It is our effort to bring more awareness to the benefit of local food and sustainable business practices. Visitors will be able to sample some of the best products of local food and beverage artisans, tour Food For Thought’s organic farm and green buildings as well as socialize, learn and have fun in a beautiful setting. Children welcome.
This is a “zero-waste” event. What does “zero-waste” mean?
As in all things sustainable “zero-waste” is a process, not a destination. The goal is for all the waste generated from the event to be either reusable, recyclable or compostable. Utensils, drinking cups and plastic bags are made from corn and compostable. Plates are also made from non-bleached recycled content and along with the food scraps are added to our onsite composting piles where we compost 100% of our food waste from our food facility along with approximately 7 tons of cardboard every year. This compost is then used on our organic farm and the organic farms of local farmers that grow crops for us. Last year we had over 800 guests eating, drinking and socializing which resulted in less than one ounce of waste.

TRAVERSE CITY July 9, 2010 – Traverse City Film Festival founder Michael Moore has announced the line-up for the 2010 edition of the festival, now in its 6th record-breaking year.
Moore, the Academy Award-winning director of “Bowling for Columbine” and” “Capitalism: A Love Story,” launched the Traverse City Film Festival in 2005 in an aim to bring often-undistributed national and international films to the public in this remote area of Michigan.
The festival will be held from July 27 to August 1.
“You might call this year’s fest a brazen, incendiary celebration of art, and specifically, the art of cinema,” said Moore. “Cinema that is not afraid to take risks, to challenge the conventional wisdom, to move an audience so profoundly that everyone will feel transported to a place where one can think and explore and rebel.”
Held in downtown Traverse City, Michigan on the shores of Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay, the Traverse City Film Festival is quickly becoming one of the most renowned independent film festivals in the country. It has gained a reputation for attracting the best in independent world cinema.
Along with an assortment of over 100 films, this year’s festival boasts favorites such as an expanded film school schedule, daily free panel discussions, an array of parties and other special events including a series of free films, on a huge outdoor screen set against the beautiful Traverse City waterfront, which has been expanded and will take place Tuesday through Sunday nights.
New to the festival this year, the University of Michigan is teaming up with the Traverse City Film Festival to teach filmmaking and prepare students for jobs in the film industry. In addition, U of M faculty members will serve as moderators, panelists and jurors in the first step toward a broader participation in the film festival.
“Along with realizing our goal of becoming a major international film festival, we now can draw on the educational support of the University of Michigan to lend its expertise to our educational initiatives,” said Moore. “We celebrate great filmmaking, aim to help budding filmmakers on their paths, and also want to offer opportunities for the general public to deepen its appreciation of film.”
Early tickets will go on sale to the 3,000-strong Friends of the Traverse City Film Festival this Sunday, July 11, and then to the general public on
Saturday, July 17.
