Traverse City Winter Comedy Arts Festival – February 13 – 15, 2015

AMERICA’S TOP POLITICAL COMEDIAN BILL MAHER TO HEADLINE 2015 TRAVERSE CITY WINTER COMEDY ARTS FESTIVAL

February in Northern Michigan will be funny once again when Oscar-winner Michael Moore, “The Goldbergs” star Jeff Garlin, and comedian Doug Benson host the Traverse City Winter Comedy Festival, headlined this year by HBO star and political satirist Bill Maher. Joining Bill will be Doug Benson, Michael Moore, and a slate of popular, edgy comedians February 13-15, 2015, in the historic venues of frozen Traverse City, Michigan.

The hugely popular Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” will bring his incisive brand of political satire to TC for one night only on Valentine’s Day, 2015. With his unique insights into Isis, Ferguson, and Ebola, what could be more romantic on this special weekend than the Bill Maher show in Traverse City?

Moore said that Maher is donating his appearance at the festival, “even paying his own way here, because he wants to help out our area and the work of the Traverse City Film Festival. Bill usually plays venues and arenas that seat thousands, so we are especially fortunate to have a comedian of his caliber coming here.”

Operating with the mission of bringing “a dozen comedians, a bunch of movies, thousands of laughs — and 200 inches of snow” to our “The Shining”-like town in February, the festival will feature top comedians in concert, including returning comedian, actor, and podcast host extraordinaire Doug Benson (“@midnight,” “Super High Me”).

In addition to his award-winning stand-up and “Doug Loves Movies” podcast, the thinking man’s stoner is also bringing us a Valentine’s Day treat — a very special edition of the world-famous “Doug Benson Movie Interruption” in which Doug and his buddies will seat themselves in the front row of the State Theatre with microphones in hand to hilariously riff on one of the timeless great-bad movies of all time, “Pretty Woman.”

Benson, Traverse City’s #1 fan, and Garlin have also persuaded a few of their famous and hilarious friends to leave the sunshine of Los Angeles to come to the tundra of the North to perform. The full comedy lineup will be announced in early January, when tickets go on sale.

AND…for the younger members of our population in need of earmuffs both outside and inside the comedy venues, the Traverse City Film Festival and the National Cherry Festival will continue their historic partnership so that Front Street can again be the site of FREE family fun.

Front Street between Park and Cass will be transformed into a veritable winter wonderland with activities like PGA-approved frozen mini golf, an ice skating rink smack dab in the middle of the street, Downtown TC’s own Mt. Everest of sledding, and of course, it wouldn’t be a Comedy Festival without a Ferris Wheel — because what says winter fun quite like the wind whipping against your face at high speeds and heights?

The comedy events will be priced so that all people will be able to attend — and some events will even be free.
