Our Farm-to-Table dining series brings the fresh flavors of northern Michigan to the Thistle Pub & Grille the third weekend of each month, May through October.

Our chefs work with local farms, making personal visits to many of them, to build a custom three-course menu.

Our Farm-to-Table series is a clear example of Crystal Mountain’s commitment to the sustainability of the local food movement and the role that our restaurants play in it.

Third Coast Bicycle Festival – August 12 – 21, 2011

Third Coast Bicycle FestivalFrom Aug 12th through the 21st in Traverse City, Michigan the Third Coast Bicycle Festival will offer something for every bicycle enthusiast. Whether you’re a triathlete, a fixed gear rider, a USCF road racer, a weekend tourer, a cyclocross racer, or just love to be outside riding your bike with your family you’ll find plenty of cool events throughout the week.

On Saturday afternoon you won’t want to miss the thrilling curb-to-curb races of the 4th Annual Cherry Roubaix Criterium Road Races just two blocks from downtown. High flying BMX action, urban trial riding demonstrations and more!

But there’s lots lots more – bicycle art, trackstand and polo competitions, a bicycle film night, and lots and lots of great local organized rides. Grand Traverse Balloon Classic – June 17, 18 and 19, 2011

All balloon activities are subject to weather conditions. Preferred conditions are extremely light winds, good visibility, and dry. Times may be adjusted slightly.

More updates and information coming soon, including weather updates a few hours prior to each launch as launch sites are determined by the direction of the wind and weather conditions.

If winds are out of north (a combination of surface winds and winds aloft), we will anticipate launching at the open space, if winds are out of the south (a combination of surface winds and winds aloft), we will anticipate launching at an alternate location that will be determined at least 2 hours prior to launch

Friday 17th: Evening group fly out (a portion of the 25 balloons launching as a group will be a beautiful sight) followed by an evening balloon glow where the balloons are illuminated from the burners. The fly out will begin at approximately 7:30pm and the balloon glow will be beginning at approximately 9:30pm, lasting until about 10:30. A portion of the balloons will perform a balloon glow after sunset at the open space located in downtown Traverse City

Saturday 18th: Sunrise balloon launch beginning around 6am with a group ascension with approximately 25 balloons launching. Evening group fly out at approximately 7:30pm followed by an evening balloon glow around 9:30pm, lasting until about 10:30. A portion of the balloons will perform a balloon glow after sunset at the open space located in downtown Traverse City

Sunday 19th: Sunrise flight begins at approximately 6am.

All balloon events open to the public, free of charge.

The Homestead – Watercolor Painting Workshop with Edee Joppich – October 4 – 7, 2010

Monday through Thursday, October 4-7, 2010

Students will create a series of 3 to 9 small paintings on a specific subject.  These works will be mounted on a full sheet of watercolor paper with related wash painted on it.  The subject could be a barn.  Each small painting is a view or detail of it.  These are arranged on a large paper prepared with a wash of barn texture.  Other suggestions are trees (leaves, twigs, blossoms, etc.) birds, animals, fish, people, etc.Edee encourages originality and will demonstrate many of her traditional as well as innovative ways of creating beautiful effects with watercolor.  In-depth critiques along with color and design instruction make an Edee Joppich workshop an invaluable opportunity for serious painters at every level of experience.

Edee Joppich graduated from Marygrove College with graduate studies from Wayne State University.  Her inspirational classes are widely sought after.  Edee’s work is in corporate and private collections.  She is a signature member of the International Society of Experimental Artists.  www.edeejoppich.com.

2010 Inland Seas Music Festival – July 17, 2010

The 2010 Inland Seas Music Festival will take place on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 10:00am – 5:00pm on the waterfront at the Inland Seas Education Center in Suttons Bay.

“Song of the Lakes” to be Feature Attraction
The Inland Seas Music Festival will provide live music from several area groups throughout the day. Performances on the main stage include:

* 10:00 – 11:15am – “Handy Billy”
* 11:30am – 2:00pm – “Wild Sullys”
* 2:30 – 5:00pm – “Song of the Lakes”

Live music will also be provided down by the boardwalk, with the “Interlochen Ensemble-Brass Quintet” performing in the morning and “Handy Billy” performing in the afternoon.

5K Schoolship Run will Kick Off the Festival
This year’s Inland Seas Music Festival will begin at 9:00am with a 5K Schoolship Run along scenic Lake Michigan. It is only $30 to participate, and all racers who register before July 7th will receive a t-shirt and water bottle. A lite snack will also be provided after the race. Age group awards will be presented during a ceremony after the race. Click here to register.
